Our sons discovered mango lassis a couple of years ago when we were dining out at an Indian restaurant on New Year’s Eve. They were intrigued by the name of the drink and decided to each order one. Well, it didn’t take long before my husband and I were in there, tugging away on the boys’ lassis, and wishing we had ordered our own. We were struck by the freshness of the beverage and it’s unique and delicious cardamom flavour.
- 1 large ripe mango, peeled and coarsely chopped
- 1 cup plain yogurt, I particularly like Greek and Kefir
- 1/3 cup whole fresh almonds
- 1/4 cup milk, water or dilute orange juice
- 2 tsp agave nectar
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 4 ice cubes

Depending on the type of blender you have, you may find it easier to grind the almonds in a coffee grinder before adding them to the blender.
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until mostly smooth. Adjust thickness as desired by adding more milk, water or dilute orange juice.

Hey Kelly! As promised–here’s my interpretation of your fabulous recipe!

I’d rather have this than a lot of desserts. Just perfect.
@Charles Hi Charles! I’ve been trying out a new google interface for blogger so that may be the source of the problem (I did have someone mention that they were unable to leave a comment…). I like the look of this new layout but currently it is very limited in its application (cannot edit, etc) so I’ve been drifting back to the old format and hopefully over time I can make the full switch. Hopefully the problems won’t persist – thanks for letting me know.
Hi Kelly – finally I’m able to get through. I’ve been having problems accessing your blog for the past couple of days – did you have any problems with it? Love the new look though :)
Never tried a lassi – looks like something I’d like, and mango is always a winner in my book. Just love the “tropical” flavour it has :)
The mango tops it off nicely. Your picture is done so well!
What a great looking lassie! I love the combination of flavours of it.
Kelly this mango almond lassi looks so refreshing – love the new look of your blog!
What a great recipe Kelly. I do love a Lassi, so refreshing. I am not a huge fan of cardamom but I am getting used to it (the Moroccan’s use it a lot too).
That’s a combo I never tried but it looks good for sure.
@Dzoli Hi Dzoli – I find the ground almonds add a nice texture, taste and wonderful nutrients. As for the new blogger interface, I really like the look however in its current version, it is quite limited (there is virtually no ability to edit) – so, once google updates the version it may become more user friendly. Until then, I think I will stick to my original format. Cheers.
@lisa is cooking Hi Lisa, i’m with you – thanks for dropping in.
@Junia Thanks Junia!!
@Sarah i think you’d really like this one Sarah.

@Tanvi@Sinfully Spicy Thanks Tanvi – it’s quite satisfying…
@France@beyondthepeel thanks Frace – a little nut goes a long way :)
@Lizzy thanks Lizzy – let me know if you give it a try. Hope you enjoy.
@thecompletecookbook thanks Mandy!
@Alaiyo Kiasi-Barnes thanks so much Alaiyo – I hope you enjoy the lassi. I hope to covert to the other blog interface once all the elements are in place – currently there are too many limitations. But I agree, it’s a lovely minimalist look. Thank you for taking the time to feed back.
@Joanne i’m with you – nuts and seeds everywhere!
@Ashley@Bakerbynature thanks Ashley – the variations are endless. Have fun with it!
@Elies_Lie yes, the afternoon is a great time – my boys each had one as an after school snack they day I blended them up for the post. Thanks Elies!
@Reem | Simply Reem Thanks Reem – it makes for quite a satisfying drink.
@Anne@frommysweetheart Thanks Anne – I find the almonds work really well with this drink and as for sugar, well, I’m always trying to knock some of that off.
@Ann hee-hee… I don’t actually own martini glasses but agreed, this one does look like a fancy martini glass! Cheers Ann.
@Stephanie @ Eat. Drink. Love. ha-ha, don’t we all!
@yummychunklet thanks very much yummy!
@Asian-spice mix thanks Ridwan – makes a great breakfast too.
@Food Jaunts they’re so good, aren’t they? and once you’ve had one, it seems you’re always looking out for them.
@Balvinder ( Neetu) mango is pretty wonderful in every form! Thanks for your dropping by.
A less sweet version sounds perfect! And, the fresh mango flavor with cardamom is a great mix.
ahhhh this looks beautiful and delicious! love the new layout btw :)
Gorgeous! I’ve never heard of lassis before but I think I’m sold- love the mango, almond, and cardamom combo!
Sounds delicious – I grew up with cardamom in just about everything it seems, so I’m always looking for new ways to use it.
I’ve never heard of Mango lassi before but I’m so open to trying this. This looks very delicious
This sounds like a great breakfast smoothie to me! :)
Sounds really good! I like your new site, very pretty! :-)
I love the new look of your site. It is new right? I’m not crazy? Ha! Anyways, this looks delicious, Kelly. :)
Wow..looks so yum! Lassi is one of my all time fav beverages & almond & mango pairing is exotic!
@Sissi Thank you for your kind words and feedback on the new look Sissi. I am trying out a new interface and like the minimalist appearance too. It may take some time to fully establish as there are quite a few bells and whistles missing from this first edition. I hope you enjoy the lassi :)
@SallyBR thanks Sally, Blogger just introduced a new interface with Dynamic Views so I was trying it out. I quite like the clean look of it but currently, it has minimal editing capacity so I will phase it in over time.
@kristy thanks so much Kristy! i’m trying out a new interface but it is not yet fully established so there might be some back and forthing until all the elements are in place. Thanks for your feedback on it. The Mango Lassi is really unusual in the true sense of the word. It is unlike any smoothie-style drink we have had before. We find it very refreshing and flavourful – hope you do too. Spending the day with Miss A sounds like the perfect birthday plan to me (and a day off from work? even better :).
I love the added almonds in the mango lassi and the new look rocks!
My sister loves mango lassis, but I’ve never even tried one. They look delish!
This sounds fabulous – great choice for your great new look.
Have a happy afternoon.
:-) Mandy
Nice new look! I was a bit surprised when I clicked on my email feed, thinking it had taken me to the “wrong place”
I should probably think about changing things around a bit in the Bewitching… but I’m too lazy (sigh)
I love the new blog look! It looks fantastic and your picture is awesome! :) This drink sounds delicious – I’ve never heard of it before. I think it’s one we’d all enjoy as well. :)
The Lassi is one of my favorite treats, and I always order one when we’re dining out at our favorite vegetarian Indian restaurant. The addition of almonds sounds heavenly. As Joanne, the previous poster, said: “a little nutty flavor makes everything better.” I can’t wait to fire up the blender. I like the clean look of your blog as well.
Alaiyo
I adore mango lassis…but honestly I’m pretty sure I love this version more! A little nutty flavor makes everything better.
I’ve only had the “original” mango lassi before; I love the idea of adding new flavors to it. Your version looks wonderfully refreshing.
Beautiful photo! I don’t know why I have never tasted lassi in Indian restaurants (I suppose I was always too busy with fighting back my tears and ringing ears after having ordered extra hot ;-) ) but now that I see it I think I will make it at home. The weather is still very warm, so it will be perfect now.
I love your new very modern theme and clean, elegant layout!
This looks so refreshing for afternoon mocktail!
Tq for sharing the recipe! Buzzed! ;)
Perfect….
Mango lassi is my all time favorite…
I like your added twist.
Yummm..
Kelly…first of all…this drink looks simply beautiful! I do love mango lassis….but I think I would much prefer the less sweet flavor of almond! And I sneak cardamom into anything I can! I love your twist with this recipe!
Oh, delicious! Mango in a martini glass? Sign me up!
What a delicious dessert! I love mango anything!!
Yum! Probably one of my favorite flavors of lassi!
Mango is my favorite,this is kind of my dessert,looks so elegant and tasty.
Ridwan
Yum I love lassis! I’ll admit I always get one whenever we visit the Indian restaurant. I’ll have to try giving it a shot at home
I make mango lasi especially in mango season often.And not only with Indian food.Neve rtried with almonds.See you are using new tempalte from blogger.I tried but do not realy like how the pictures disappear as all other information…what are your thoughts?
I love mangoes. Whether its shake or Lassi. Mango is great.
By the way, congrats for being on Top 9 for those lovely peanut butter banana muffins.
